Why Smoking Should be Stopped?

Aside from cigarettes can cause of premature death of a person, cigarettes is no good benefits to our body it can cause of addiction of a person because of the nicotine causes pleasant feelings that make the smoker want to smoke. In our case today 4.9 million People dying because of tobacco use in a year.  If this trend continues, the number of deaths will increase to 10 million by the year 2020, 70% of which will be coming from countries like the Philippines.

Also the second hand smoke can cause of death of a person each year, about 3,400 non-smoking adults die of lung cancer as a result of breathing second hand smoke. Each year second hand smoke also causes about 46,000 deaths from heart disease in people who are not current smokers. Individual behavioral and pharmacologic interventions to promote smoking cessation are beneficial. However, to have greater effect in eliminating the increasing number of first time smokers and help the current smokers to quit, it is imperative that smoke-free environments be supported.

There have been great steps taken in promoting smoke-free environments, such as the implementation of the Clean Air Act of 1999, the World Health Organization Tobacco-Free Initiative, the Comprehensive Anti-Smoking Ordinance, and Republic Act 9211 - an Act regulating the packaging, use, sale, distribution and advertisement of tobacco products and for other purposes.  These facilitate limiting the access of children and youth to cigarette; limit the advertisement of cigarettes, observance of smoke-free institutions and establishment, and the establishment of Smoking Withdrawal Clinics to provide counseling regarding the hazardous health effects of tobacco.

Promoting a smoke-free environment in the Philippines is therefore an important component of promoting healthy lifestyle among individuals and in communities and also to avoid some risk that can cause of premature death of many people. Even we need to sacrifice many jobs of Filipinos and the improving of our economy, for the sake of a healthy living. Not to influence the children and the youth of using tobacco, and to avoid them to risk of cigarettes smoking.

To promote a healthful environment to lessen the air pollution in the surroundings, and also to protect the youth like me from being initiated to cigarette smoking and tobacco use by prohibiting the sale of tobacco products to minors. We have only one life, spend our life without using cigarettes, spend it with a healthy living and enjoy life without worrying in our health change our lifestyle into healthy living now.
